Wax print circle skirt

Made another circle skirt in one of my many wax prints I bought in Ghana. Such gorgeous, bright colour combos. I'm pretty impressed with my lapped zip and narrow hem.

Ghana kids' quilt

Finally pieced together the patchwork squares the kids embroidered their names onto in Ghana, during my recent teacher exchange funded by the British Council. I did a simple stitch in the ditch quilting method with French binding. Just need to add something to hang it from on the back and ship it to them.

Kaffe Fassett and Lichtenstein

Had a wonderful day in London yesterday with mum. We went to see the Kaffe Fassett exhibition at Zandra Rhodes' Fashion and Textiles Museum in Bermondsey. Had a gorgeous lunch at the chic Cote restaurant at Hay's Galleria, then walked along the river, via Borough Market to Tate Modern to see the Lichtenstein exhibition. Both were well worth seeing: Kaffe was so bright, colourful and inspiring and the Lichtenstein's were amazing to see in the flesh, so big and bold. Took a quick trip to Regent St to visit the Japan Centre and Liberty.

Trip to Ghana

I recently returned from an amazing teacher exchange trip to Ghana. It was extremely hot, but the people, culture and textiles history is just fascinating. I taught the students how to embroider their names onto patches, which i have brought home to make into a patchwork quilt to display in their school. I was taken to try the Ashanti printing method called Adinkra printing and purchased some blocks to try with my students here. I also saw traditional Kente cloth being woven. We were taken on a tour through the bustling, eclectic market where I purchased lots of Dutch wax printed cottons, which are so bright and exciting. I'm hoping to make some of these into vintage style dresses and circle skirts.

Away Day in Bath

Went on an away day with mum yesterday to Bath. Decided to get the train there, which wasn't such a good idea when we discovered the train terminated at Cardiff and the rickety old train we got on was full of Cardiff rugby fans on their way to watch the Cardiff v Ireland game...! It ended up being quite a fun journey in the end though!
Mum treated me to some gorgeous Kaffe Fassett fabrics, so now I just need to find a project to do with them. They are such bold prints, I think the design needs to be simple. Some ideas below.

Vintage brassiere

Been working on my vintage lingerie skills the past couple of weeks and I'm now developing a 1920s/1930s style brassiere. I'm hand stitching the whole thing and have used an alternative form of point turc to stitch the top cup to the lower cup and shell hemming at the sides. It's taking forever, but it will be so pretty and a one-off. Might make a range to sell- contact me if interested in a commission.

Top cup attached to lower cup using point turc in reverse

Reverse point turc

Shell hem

1930s brassiere- should look like this when finished, hopefully!

Productive Sunday

Made a cushion cover using the half square triangle method (tutorial found on Pinterest) and shadow quilting using primary-coloured fabrics. Also made another crochet tote, just need to get some webbing for straps. Finally, painted my nails nude and added glitter tips!
