BurdaStyle Skirt Pattern

Thanks so much to everyone who left a positive comment about this- I was really touched! Well, the pattern will be posted on BurdaStyle in a couple of weeks, but with a twist... I'm useless at keeping secrets, but I'm going to try hard to this time! Keep checking back- I will tell you my secret around the 18th September.

Vintage Vogue #3

Yoke in broderie anglais and bodice in chambray with red top-stitching:

Placket added to pattern as an alternative to the lapped centre front provided on the pattern (I will write a how-to-make-a-placket post shortly).

I added three pintucks to the hem of the skirt- these are actually bigger than pins, so just tucks! I topstitched them in red to keep with the red/ white/ blue theme.

Almost finished! Just making some decisions about binding, pockets and belt:

Pocket Templates

What a great idea and a time-saver! Colette Patterns has blogged a brilliant tutorial about how to use card templates to make pockets- taking out all the tedious pressing by hand. Take a look if you want a quick method of making pockets. I will definitely be trying this method at school.

Sewing Class

I ran my first 'sewing class' for my friend Helena (Dulcea). Helena is going off to an amazing fashion design job in the States and wanted to brush up her pattern-drafting and sewing skills. She made a beautiful chambray skirt inspired by my original. This was a dummy run- I hope to run more formal classes in the future. Thanks H!
