Indian Sari Dress

I bought the most beautiful mustard and deep purple sari silk in Delhi last year and have been saving it for a special occasion. It's one of my best friend's birthday this week and she's emigrating to Australia, so it will definitely be a special occasion. There are 6 metres of various parts and I draped it on the stand to see which parts would make a nice 50s style dress.

I love the block colour idea, but think the all purple idea would suit me better.

Tie-front Toile for Dress

I used the amazing Pattern Magic book to create this toile for a dress I would like to make- you might remember the miniature version. This one was much less tricky to construct! The only problem is that there is a lot of fullness around the chest and neck area, so I have to keep the neckline high, but I think this looks nice with the cap-sleeves I have added. I'm thinking about adding a circle skirt to the design.

Custom Dress #3

School started again this week, so I have had to prep for that rather than work on any projects. I have finally finished the toile/ muslin for the custom dress I am making, though. I am about to send this off to L, so that she can fit it and let me know what needs adapting. From the photos, I can already see the mid-section needs to be pulled in vertically at the the centre front to replicate the original. I'm so excited to see how this looks on a body- the mannequin really doesn't do the shape justice.
