Cutting on a 1/2 scale stand

Played around with some vintage-inspired wrap-around styles on the stand yesterday. Created four garments in under an hour- so quick and easy on a 1/2 scale mannequin! Look out for some of these in vintage fabrics in the next few months!!

Recent makes

I recently made a little African wax print bear for my mum's birthday and a drawstring bag for my grandmother's Christmas present. I'd had a break from sewing, after making lots of panto costumes, and realise now how much I've missed it!

Mermaid and the Oyster

I've started work as a lecturer at the Arts University Bournemouth and my first project was to make six mermaid costumes with the first years for a live performance as part of the Arts by the Sea festival. So thrilled with the results!

They are performing today 12-6 and tomorrow 12-4 at pier approach, Bournemouth.

18th century bodice-making practise

I'm currently developing a file of construction and finishing techniques for teaching first year students next term. This bodice forms part of their assessment and includes lots of techniques combined in a finished product.

Fuller skirt

Played around with net and tulle to get the skirt looking fuller. There are two layers of nylon net and four layers of nylon tulle. Still got a top layer of silk organza to go!

Tailored conductor's jacket

It's been a while since I made a tailored jacket, but I really enjoyed re-learning all the specialist methods to create this jacket for a musician friend. It took hours, but mostly because I'm a perfectionist and wanted it to be 100% perfect! The fabric is cotton sateen, the buttons are silk satin  and the lining is a liquid gold satin.

Grading patterns and making dresses

Busy week so far, started work on a wedding dress I'm making for a friend and finally got round to grading the Camp's Bay and Betty's Bay tunic top PDF patterns. Lots of people have asked for them in other sizes, so they will be available on etsy in a little while.
