Check/ Plaid Jacket Remake

Did some charity/ thrift shopping this weekend and found this lovely, wool, check jacket. It looked a little old-fashioned long, so I chopped the bottom off and added some red buttons to pick out the red in the check.

Witty Stitches #3

And more quotes to stitch!

Witty Stitches #2

More quotes to embroider:

Witty Stitches

Since embroidering some pictures recently, I've seen a lot of embroidered one-liners on Etsy and thought I might create some witty stitches of my own. If anyone has any suggestions/ good websites for witty quotes, please let me know. So far, these are appealing:

Crochet Pin-cushion

I made a couple of these and gave one as a present. Crochet in red cotton and pad made from limited edition Liberty cotton made for the V&A Quilts exhibition.

Workshops

A lovely friend of mine gave me a contact at The Oak Studio in Hampstead and I contacted her on the off-chance she might want a textiles teacher. She did and it looks like I might be running a couple of weekend workshops! Yay! I am going to send off some samples (which will be used in a window display) and costings and will keep you posted of dates (likely to be March/ April).

Here is my very simple retro apron complete with heart-shaped pocket:

And my yo-yo cushion:

Pinking Shears

Bargain! Vintage pinking shears, £2 in a charity shop!

Madewell Spring Love

Loving the Madewell sneak peek at their Spring collection. Could I do the midi skirt? Would you? Have you?! How did you wear it?

Love the jeans with oxfords/ brogues look.

Hand Quilting

So I'm making progress on my stars... trying a little bit of hand-quilting using my new cotton batting. Haven't quite got the knack of the delicate touch, but I'm practising!

Tomboy

I have loved this style for ages and finally plucked up the courage to tie a ribbon around my neck! Sounds pathetic, I know, but I teach in a small, country town where minds are not as open as in the Big Smoke... However, my sixth-form students loved my outfit! I don't make a habit of posting photos of myself (particularly with my head attached), because I am so not photogenic, but this is a one-off. I'm not about to start a daily outfit blog, don't worry!!

Don't you just love Jim in the background?!! Haha!!

Shirt: Vintage, Brick Lane
Trousers: Old Navy
Penny Loafers: Russell and Bromley
Cardi: Land's End
Belt: hand-me-down
Ribbon: last year's school planner!

Tattoo Parlour

Found this great little tattoo shop in Pokesdown, which also doubles as an American-style diner. Only had a latte this afternoon, but might be heading back for a tat with my coffee next time! There are some great vintage/ secondhand shops in this area too.

Madewell Love

While I was in NYC, I was privileged to meet a couple of Madewell designers. They were amazing people and clearly very talented:

Loving the layered shirts/ sweaters/ skinnies/ paper bag trousers. The Spring collection is also to-die-for!

Bird Love

Love this plate from a 1914 book. Lots more available here.

Stitched drawings #2...

Another stitched drawing of my friend and her pooch, Sid. This time, hand-stitched. What to do with them though...

Stars

I was really inspired by Garment House's star cushion and decided to make my own version using utilitarian/ repro feedsack prints. I love the juxtaposition of gingham, chambray and floral. This is a hand-pieced patchwork- so therapeutic after a chaotic day at school... Think I will eventually applique it onto white cotton/ linen to make a cushion cover.
